Differential phosphorus absorption by cocoa cultivars

Pesquisa Agropecuaria Brasileira 20(2): 159-167

Cocoa cultivars SIC 864 X SIC 328, SIC 823 X ICS 1, SIC 831 X Sca 6, SIC 831 X IMC 67 and Catongo were grown in modified Hoagland solution (0.2%) in the greenhouse. For dry matter production and P absorption SIC 831 X Sca 6 was best; it also had a high secondary root surface and high leaf area. Next best was SIC 831 X IM 67. Catongo was worst. A high correlation was found between the dry matter content of secondary roots and P absorption.
