Differential sensitivity of papaya varieties in expression of boron deficiency symptoms

Carica papaya varieties Subang 6, Sitiawan, Maradol and Backcross Solo were grown on boron deficient peat soil. Data from year-old plants showed that varietal effect was significant for number of bumps/fruit (a symptom of B deficiency), percentage bumpy fruits and petiole B levels. Expression of deficiency symptoms was found to be strongly related to petiole B levels within each variety.
