Differential staining of chromosomes in cereals

A modification of the barium-salt-Giemsa (BSG) technique is described which distinguishes particularly the heterochromatin zones of chromosomes. Interspecific differences were easily recognized. Species with a large proportion of heterochromatin, such as Secale cereale and Aegilops speltoides, gave the best response to this procedure.
