Tests on 35 X. campestris pv. oryzae and 14 X. campestris pv. oryzicola strs. and 6 'brown blotch' pathogens, all of different geographical origin, indicated that the pvs. (which displayed clearly distinct protein patterns on polyacrylamide gels and could be differentiated from each other by 4 phenotypic tests) were indeed members of Xanthomonas and that the brown blotch strs. were considerably different from the other 2 pathogens, and were not X. but in a different rRNA superfamily.
