Differentiation of Onchocerca gutturosa and O. lienalis microfilariae by analysis of their GPI isoenzymes

Differentiation of Onchocerca gutturosa and O. lienalis microfilariae by analysis of their GPI isoenzymes

Journal of Helminthology 59(2): 187-189

Living microfilariae of O. gutturosa and O. lienalis were collected from skin samples from the umbilical and head regions of cattle. Using thin-layer starch gel and specific enzyme stain electrophoresis the microfilarial extracts from one particular area had identical patterns for glucose phosphate isomerase (GPI) and they were clearly different for the 2 populations from the head and from the umbilical skin regions.
