Differentiation of crown rust of oats in relation to breeding for rust resistance

Differentiation of crown rust of oats in relation to breeding for rust resistance

Trudy po Prikladnoi Botanike, Genetike i Selektsii 71(3): 68-71

In a study (1976-79) of 23 Soviet populations of Puccinia coronata (40-60 single-spore isolates from each population), differences in virulence between populations were detected; strains with many virulence genes were commoner in Siberian populations than in those from European Russia. Of the known resistance genes, the most effective against Soviet populations were shown, using a monogenic set of lines of the variety Pendec, to be Pc39, Pc55 and Pc56.
