Differentiation of subperiodic Brugia malayi and Brugia pahangi (Nematoda, Filarioidea) by the gene-enzyme systems glucose phosphate isomerase and phosphogluconate dehydrogenase

Single adult worms and pooled infective larvae of subperiodic B. malayi and B. pahangi were studied by means of horizontal starch-gel electrophoresis. Glucosephosphate isomerase (GPI) showed inter- and intraspecific variations. It distinguished subperiodic B. malayi and B. pahangi unequivocally. There was no difference in the GPI phenotypes of infective larvae and adult worms.
