Differing expression of androgenetic capacity of anthers formed in vivo or in vitro in Nicotiana

Differing expression of androgenetic capacity of anthers formed in vivo or in vitro in Nicotiana

Bulletin de la Societe Botanique de France, Actualites Botaniques 132(3/4): 167

In vitro flower formation was obtained from thin cell layers taken from floral branches of haploid and diploid plants of N. tabacum and N. plumbaginifolia. Anthers taken from flowers formed in vitro from diploid plants gave a higher percentage of haploid plants than anthers taken in vivo; anthers formed in vitro from haploid plants alone gave rise to plants; anthers formed in vivo from haploid plants did not.
