Difficulties of felling and delimbing in thinning

Difficulties of felling and delimbing in thinning

Metsatehon Tiedotus, Finland (378): 11

Felling and delimbing times were studied in a first-thinning operation. In pine stands of 'branchiness class' 2, felling was 24-28% slower in thinning than in clear felling operations. In stands of branchiness class 3 it was 33-47% slower for both pine and spruce. Delimbing of spruce and pine was slower in the first thinning operation than in the clear felling operation by 5-15%, depending of species, stem size and branchiness class.
