Digestibility and protein content of Leucaena leucocephala

East African Agricultural and Forestry Journal 48(1/4): 32-34

Nitrogen was estimated in samples of Leucaena leucocephala at 8 different stages of growth in Kenya before and after the digestion index was estimated by the nylon bag method in the rumen of a Sahiwal heifer weighing about 300 kg. Mean rumen digestion index for ground samples was from 13.6% for shattered pods to 90.6% for small developing pods.
