Digestibility of a tangle (Laminaria angustata var. longissima)

Digestibility of a tangle (Laminaria angustata var. longissima)

Bulletin of Tokai Regional Fisheries Research Laboratory (115): 11-15

Raw seaweed (Laminaria angustata var. longissima) was sun-dried, then freeze-dried, then 1 part was mixed with 10 parts of a basal diet. Rats having had the basal diet alone were given the mixed diet for 24 days. Apparent digestibility was for crude protein 79.5, crude fat 39.4, crude fibre 77.6, ash 94.6 and carbohydrate 79.5%. Gain of body mass was greater than that of rats pair-fed on the basal diet with extra purified ingredients corresponding to those of the seaweed.
