Soviet Merino wethers 1.5 years old were in the 1st period of trial given a basal diet containing lucerne hay, maize silage, oat and peas; and in the 2nd and 3rd, that diet with maize silage accounting for 45 and 62% of dietary DM, respectively; and in the 4th, the basal diet without maize silage. During the 4 periods digestibility of protein was 60.2, 66.2, 63.8 and 62.5%; fat 50.0, 75.2, 83.8 and 55.1; fibre 41.6, 50.5. 60.3 and 39.3.
