Digestibility of fiber components and reproductive performance of sows fed high levels of alfalfa meal

Digestibility of fiber components and reproductive performance of sows fed high levels of alfalfa meal

Journal of Animal Science 61(3): 595-602

Experiments were made with second-parity sows fed on diets with 5 or 50% lucerne meal (Exp. 1) or 5, 50 or 95% lucerne meal (Exp. 2) beginning 30 days after mating and continuing during lactation, to 21 days postpartum. Diets in both experiments were calculated to be equal in crude protein, but different in metabolizable energy content. Feed intake was restricted to 2 kg daily during gestation and given freely during lactation. Sows were tethered in metabolism crates 45 days after mating.
