Four Large White male pigs, average liveweight 57 kg, were given a protein-free diet or a diet with 16% crude protein supplied by fish meal or wheat gluten. Total amino acid weights during 24 h in distal small intestine were 19, 7 and 5 g for fish meal, gluten and protein-free diets respectively. Apparent ileal digestibility of individual amino acids was higher with the gluten diet than with the fish meal diet (except for lysine, alanine and arginine).
