Digestive enzymes of different social bees, and particularly of Dactylurina staudingeri

Digestive enzymes of different social bees, and particularly of Dactylurina staudingeri

Publications Scientifiques Accelerees, Universite Rene Descartes (5): 28

Using a semi-quantitative method, various salivary and midgut glands of an African bee, D. staudingeri, were examined for the presence of 19 enzymes. The results were compared with those previously reported for Apotrigona nebulata, Scaptotrigona mexicana, Melipona beecheii and Apis mellifera. Some differences were found, although there were general similarities in the basic metabolism of all 5 species, in particular the absence of alpha -glucuronidase.P.
