Dimensional stability of various wood-based materials

Studies were made on: (a) 3-layer 16.0-mm UF pine/poplar particleboard; (b) 16.2 mm MDF; (c) 16.2 mm blockboard composed of okoume daniellia strips 1-2 mm wide and poplar strips 11 mm wide; (d) 7-ply 15.4 mm PF Aucoumea/Daniellia plywood; and (e) 9-ply 15.1 mm UF Aucoumea/Daniellia plywood. Panels were exposed to high RH on one face (by placing them 50 mm above the surface of an open container of water, as in E. German standard method TGL 4413), and to ambient conditions on the other face.
