Dimethazone and metribuzin combinations for weed control in conventional-tilled soybeans

In field trials at Adelphia in 1984, the effects of pre-sowing incorporation (to a depth of 6.7 cm) or pre-em. application of dimethazone and metribuzin, combined or alone, on yield of soyabeans Midstates 250 and control of the dominant weed spp. were investigated. 0.84-1.40 kg dimidazon/ha gave good control of Chenopodium album, Panicum dichotomiflorum and Amaranthus retroflexus but no control of Mollugo verticillata. 0.2-0.6 kg metribuzin/ha gave generally less weed control than dimidazon, but did control M. verticillata. Neither herbicide caused significant crop injury and combinations of the 2 herbicides gave similar results to dimidazon alone, except for M.verticillata. Both methods of application gave similar weed control. The lowest rate of dimidazon increased soyabean yields 7-fold compared with the uncultivated control.
