Dipetalonema reconditum in dogs with microfilaraemia

Dipetalonema reconditum in dogs with microfilaraemia

Australian Veterinary Journal 62(1): 27-28

Identification of microfilariae found in thick blood smears from 126 dogs was based on morphological characteristics, measurement, and acid phosphatase activity. Only one dog had a pure infection of Dipetalonema reconditum and three had mixed infections of D. reconditum and Dirofilaria immitis. It is concluded that the prevalence of the former is low and it occurs most commonly in mixed infections with the latter.
