Direct and correlated response to yearling weight selection in Hereford cattle using nationally evaluated sires

Direct and correlated response to yearling weight selection in Hereford cattle using nationally evaluated sires

Journal of Animal Science 61(6): 1335-1344

Records on 726 progeny were obtained from a Hereford cattle selection programme based on expected progeny difference for body weight at 1 yr of age. A control line utilising repeat matings was used to monitor environmental changes. The genetic trend in body weight was 5.5+or-0.9 kg/yr for all progeny, and 6.2+or-0.7 kg/yr when progeny of replacement bulls were omitted from the analysis.
