Direct and correlated responses to selection for growth

Direct and correlated responses to selection for growth

Poultry genetics and breeding Proceedings of the 18th Poultry Science Symposium, in association with the 25th British Poultry Breeders Round Table, 1983: 47-57

A review. Selection for increased body weight in broiler fowl stocks and Japanese quails has resulted in substantial gains. Long-term selection responses for increased 4-week body weight in Japanese quails were in agreement with the expectation that the greatest progress would occur during the initial stages of selection, followed by a gradual decline in the selection response. Realised hsuperscript 2 estimates for early growth rate have been similar in fowls and Japanese quails (0.3-0.4).
