Direct and residual effects of potassium fertilizer in a long-term experiment

The role of K fertilizer in increasing yields, promoting crop nutrient uptake and increasing soil K levels was studied in field trials in SE Moscow region in the rotation early potatoes/winter wheat/Trifolium sp./Vicia sativa + oats/late potatoes/barley. Against a background of 100 kg each of N and P2O5 applied to each crop, increasing K rates from 50 to 240 kg K2O/ha gave yield gains of 13-44% compared with no K fertilizer.
