Direct complement fixation and isolation attempts for detecting Chlamydia psittaci infection of psittacine birds

Serum and faecal samples submitted from 147 aviary birds were examined. Isolation rates increased with increased CF titres from 3 (3.4%) of 88 birds with titres less than 8 to 3 (50%) of 6 birds with titres above 128. Among 44 paired serum samples, titres increased in 5 instances, decreased in 8, and were unchanged in 31.
