Direct genetic and maternal variance and covariance component estimates from Angus and Hereford field data

Direct genetic and maternal variance and covariance component estimates from Angus and Hereford field data

Dissertation Abstracts International, B Sciences and Engineering 46(5): 1398

Birth and weaning weight records on Aberdeen-Angus and Hereford cattle were analysed. For Angus and Hereford cattle, the number of birth weight records was 25 586 and 14 436 resp., and the number of weaning weight records 34 190 and 46 616. Two mixed models were developed that accounted for fixed contemporary groups, as well as random sire and/or maternal grandsire effects on the calf's phenotype.
