The extent of subsoil compaction was determined not by the surface load in the vehicle track, but by the total load (in this case 40 t). With one passage of the vehicle, compaction reached to 50 cm depth, or, under moist conditions, to 70 cm depth. With six passages, compaction reached to greater depth and was more intensive.
