Discovery of and preliminary studies on a photosensitive recessively male-sterile rice

Scientia Agricultura Sinica (2): 44-48

A plant which is male-sterile under long-day conditions and male-fertile under short was found in Hubei province in 1983 in a field of the late japonica variety Nongken 58. It was subsequently established by J. Y. Deng that the material contains a pair of photosensitive recessive alleles controlling male sterility and it was named Hubei photosensitive genetically male-sterile rice.
