Between 1966 and 1981 expenditure on inputs in GDR agriculture rose sharply, especially for plant protection. The aim of economic treatment of plant protection is explained and the first article describes methods like correlation analysis and factor analysis which can be used to assess efficiency. The second paper gives an account of alternative methods of comparing farm results in this field which were tried out in 56 farms.
