Economically useful mutants of barley induced by chemical mutagens

Information is presented on promising M5 mutants obtained in Tadzhikistan by treating grain of the local variety Dzhau Safedak with N-nitroso-N-methylurea (NMU) and diethyl sulphate (DES), including a dwarf, a high-yielding large-grained mutant and 2 compact-eared mutants all obtained with 0.006% NMU, and mutants ripening 3-5 days earlier than the source variety (obtained with DES).
