Effect of protein level during the period from 4 to 8 weeks old on performance and carcass composition of broiler chickens

Effect of protein level during the period from 4 to 8 weeks old on performance and carcass composition of broiler chickens

Anuario Tecnico do Instituto de Pesquisas Zootecnicas "Francisco Osorio" 9: 7-20

From 4 to 8 weeks old Hubbard chickens all previously on the same starting diet had freely water and feed based on maize and soyabean meal and containing 16, 18 or 20% protein. All variants were equal in metabolizable energy, 3000 kcal/kg, lysine and methionine + cystine. Cumulative weight gain and conversion index for male chickens from 0 to 8 weeks averaged 2088 g and 2.25 with 20% protein; performance was about 4% poorer with the other variants.
