Effect of a substituent in position beta of the heterocycle on the antibacterial and parasiticidal activities of 2-nitro naphthofurans

A series of 2-nitro naphthourans substituted at position 1 on their heterocycles were tested in vitro against Trichomonas vaginalis and Entamoeba histolytica, and against Syphacia obvelata and Hymenolepis nana in mice. Only 3 compounds substituted with an alkyl and one with a phenyl group were active against the protozoa. None of the compounds showed activity against H. nana, but several were active against S. obvelata.
