Effect of antibodies to recombinant and synthetic peptides on P. falciparum sporozoites in vitro

, : Effect of antibodies to recombinant and synthetic peptides on P. falciparum sporozoites in vitro. Science 231(4734): 156-159

Antibodies raised in mice immunized with several recombinant and synthetic peptides of the circumsporozoite protein of Plasmodium falciparum, were evaluated for protective activity in a human hepatocyte culture system. They exerted their protective effect against the parasite at 3 points: sporozoite attachment to the hepatocyte surface, entry, and subsequent intracellular development.

A new achievement in the immunodiagnosis of malaria has been reached after the knowledge of the molecular structure of some plasmodial antigens has become available. One example is given by the repetitive immunodominant epitope of Plasmodium falci...

A large peptide consisting of about 40 (Asn-Ala-Asn-Pro) repeats of P. falciparum circumsporozoite protein, (NANP)40, was synthesized. It was recognized specifically by monoclonal antibodies produced against P. falciparum sporozoites and strongly...
