In Byelorussia lime was applied at rates equivalent to 50-250% of the hydrolytic acidity (HA) to a dernopodzolic sandy loam soil (pH 5.1-5.6 and HA 2.1-2.6 meq/100 g soil). Lime applied at 10% HA (3.2 t CaCO3/ha) gave the highest increases in yields of the 1st crop (sugarbeet) and the 2nd and 3rd crops of (barley and Trifolium pratense): it also increased yields of the 4th crop (winter rye).
