Eight Landrace X Large White gilts were offered 17 300 kcal metabolizable energy per day during lactation (ad lib.), and 9 similar gilts were offered 10 400 kcal per day (restricted feeding). Crude protein intake was similar for the 2 groups. After weaning on day 24 of lactation, all females were offered 1.8 kg feed per day.
