Effect of modified urea materials and their methods of application on dry matter production, grain yield and nitrogen uptake in rice

Of various forms and methods of application of N fertilizers to rice grown under flooded conditions, placement of N as urea supergranules (1- and 2-g size) in the root zone at transplanting was the most effective in increasing DM production, paddy yields, N uptake and apparent recovery of applied N, followed by S-coated urea incorporated before transplanting. The residual N in these treatments also significantly increaed the yields of rice in the following summer season.
