In field trials at Lipki near Szczecin in 1975-7, spring wheat Alfa, Hatri, Kaspar and Kolibri were sown at 350, 500 or 650 seeds/msuperscript 2 and given 60, 100 or 140 kg N/ha. Grain protein content increased with N rate in 1975 and 1976 but not in 1977. Higher N rates increased gluten content, sedimentation and valorimeter values.
