Effect of sodium chloride salinity on enzyme activity and biochemical constituents in germinating salt tolerant rice seed

Seeds of the salt-tolerant rice SCR-1 were germinated in solutions containing 0, 0.15 or 0.3 M NaCl and endosperms and embryos were sampled every 24 h for 4 days. The low salinity rate increased alpha -amylase activity for the first 24 h in endosperms, but not in embryos, with corresponding effects on starch and sugar contents. The high rate reduced that activity in both tissues. RNase activity decreased progressively in embryos and endosperms with increasing salinity.
