Effect of soil amendments on the physico-chemical properties of sandy loam soil. 1. Chemical properties

Pot culture experiments were carried out during 1978 and 1979 on sandy loam soils deficient in organic matter to study the effects of farmyard manure (FYM), clay and charcoal applied individually, or in combination at equal rates (10 t/ha) on organic carbon, organic nitrogen, electrical conductivity and cation exchange capacity (CEC). The treatments all significantly improved the soil chemical properties, the best results being obtained with the combined treatment.
