In 3-year trials sowings were made in boxes in a greenhouse on 5 dates between 15 December and 20 February and the seedlings were eventually transplanted into a tunnel in April. All cultivars were suitable for cut-flower production but Snow White, Sentinel White Spire and Sentinel Temple were the earliest. Sentinel Guardsman, Sentinel Temple and Tip-Top Marlene had the most compact, the largest and the longest lasting inflorescences with firm stalks.
