Abstract
Applying sprinkler irrigation to different forage crops according to soil moisture deficit increased DM yields especially in dry years. Irrigation increased Lolium multiflorum yields by up to 6.39 t/ha, compared with 5.59 and 5.06 t/ha for grass/clover and grass/Medicago sativa mixtures, resp. Irrigating M. sativa in years of low moisture requirements reduced DM yields. DM, energy and CP contents of L. multiflorum were reduced by irrigation.
