Three rams of bodyweight 55 to 57 kg were prepared with rumen cannulae, duodenal and ileo-caecal re-entrant cannulae, and were used in experiments with 3 periods of 28 to 36 days each. During the 1st period the rams were given daily hay 0.7, silage 1.5, mixed feeds 0.6 and oilmeal 0.1 kg; the sugar:protein ratio of the ration was 0.5:1.0.
