Abstract
When Alfa, Hatri, Kaspar and Kolibri were compared in 3 years' field trials on a sandy soil near the Baltic coast, effects of N dose on yield and grain protein content depended on the year (weather conditions) and the variety. Higher N doses tended to raise the values recorded for most aspects of baking quality. When varieties were compared each at its own optimum N dose and sowing rate, Kolibri displayed the best baking quality.
