Effects of boiling, steaming, and chemical treatment on solid wood bending of Quercus acutissima and Pinus densiflora

The effects on bending properties were investigated of: steaming or boiling treatments; sapwood/heartwood differences, annual ring placement, softening temp. and time, m.c. and wood defects; changing rates of bending radii after release of wood members from a tension strap; and plasticizing wood by chemical treatments. Sapwood had better bending properties than heartwood in both species.
