Effects of peeling conditions on veneer quality in thick-veneer peeling

The effects of nominal veneer thickness, log heating temp. and pressure bar opening were investigated for Parashorea malaanonan, Shorea almon (pressure bar only), Dipterocarpus sp. (nominal thickness and pressure bar), Pterocymbium beccarii and Pinus radiata. Lathe check depth and surface roughness of the veneer decreased with decreasing nominal veneer thickness. Variation in veneer thickness increased as nominal veneer thickness increased, except in P. beccarii.
