Abstract
Ensiled pressed sugarbeet pulp or dried sugarbeet pulp pellets, each plus concentrate (15% crude protein) at 0.75 kg/100 kg liveweight was fed to 92 Central and Upper Belgian beef bulls. Organic matter digestibility, estimated with wether sheep, was 88.6 for silages and 84.8% for pellets. The pulp was ensiled without or with 5% molasses or with propionic acid (1 litre/t). Greatest DM intake was with dried pulp. Addition of propionic acid gave lower feed intake and lower growth rate. Mean daily weight gains of bulls fed to appetite between 297 and 621 kg liveweight were 1.47, 1.40, 1.48 and 1.37 kg for dried pulp, silage without or with molasses, and for propionic acid, respectively.
