Enteropathogenicity of bovine coronaviruses under field conditions

In a cattle unit in which neonatal diarrhoea was a consistent, serious problem and in which rotavirus, coronavirus and enteropathogenic E. coli infection had been identified, 28 of 30 calves born in one season developed diarrhoea during the first two weeks of life; 126 (43%) of 294 faecal samples were diarrhoeic. Daily serum samples were positive for rotavirus antibodies in ELISA in 25.6% of cases, and for coronavirus in 13%.
