D. oryzae (Cochliobolus miyabeanus) survived for up to 8 wk in semidry and up to 4 wk in puddled unsterilized soil and up to 16 and 9 wk respectively in sterilized soils. It was highly susceptible to antagonism by soil isolates of Trichoderma, Streptomyces and Bacillus. The perfect state was not found on old infected straw.
