Experimental determination of the respiration associated with soybean/rhizobium nitrogenase function, nodule maintenance, and total nodule nitrogen fixation

Experimental determination of the respiration associated with soybean/rhizobium nitrogenase function, nodule maintenance, and total nodule nitrogen fixation

Plant Physiology 75(1): 49-53

Rates of evolution of CO2 and H2 from intact, nodulated soyabean root systems under 80% Ar: + 20% O2 atmospheres decreased when the plants were maintained in an extended dark period, until the H2 evolution was nearly zero after 36 h at 22 degrees C, while CO2 evolution remained at 38% of the rate measured in the light.
