Experimental exposure of cattle to Mycobacterium paratuberculosis orally and intrauterine with attempted culture of the organism and detection of humoral antibodies

After oral (three heifers) or intrauterine (three heifers) infection with Mycobacterium paratuberculosis, faecal and blood samples were collected at monthly intervals for 28 months. Sixteen months after infection, lymph nodes were removed by caesarian section. Intravenous Johnin test at 28 months was positive in all the intrauterine infections and positive, negative or doubtful in the orally infected.
