Experimental induction of vaginitis in heifers by infection with Haemophilus somnus

Experimental induction of vaginitis in heifers by infection with Haemophilus somnus

Australian Veterinary Journal 63(5): 163-165

Experiments showed that a potentially pathogenic strain of H. somnus was capable of colonizing the vagina without causing disease. It was also capable of causing vaginitis and cervicitis, and this evidently needed some weakness in defence mechanisms, perhaps linked to the oestrous cycle. Immunization resulted in the appearance of antibodies in vaginal mucus only at oestrus.
