Experimental infection of raccoon dogs with two types (diploid and triploid) of the lung fluke, Paragonimus westermani

Experimental infection of raccoon dogs with two types (diploid and triploid) of the lung fluke, Paragonimus westermani

Japanese Journal of Parasitology, 343: 165-171

Nyctereutes procyonoides were inoculated orally with gelatin capsules containing 20 metacercariae of the diploid or triploid type of P. westermani (collected from Geothelphusa dehaani in Hyogo Prefecture, and from Eriocheir japonicus in Kochi Prefecture, Japan). The raccoon dogs were killed after 100 or 150 days. Worm recovery was 95% on day 100 and 50.0% on day 150 for the diploid type and 35.0% on day 100 and 65.0% on day 150 for the triploid type.
