Experimental infection of the leaf-monkey, Presbytis melalophos with subperiodic Brugia malayi

Experimental infection of the leaf-monkey, Presbytis melalophos with subperiodic Brugia malayi

Tropical Biomedicine 1(1): 21-27

Sixty P. melalophos were infected with B. malayi by subcutaneous injection with 200 subperiodic infective larvae. 21 monkeys were killed during the experiment, some at weekly intervals until week 7 and then at weeks 11 and 15. The remainder were screened between weeks 6-15 post infection. The average prepatent period was 66 days. Splenic enlargement and granulomata accompanied high microfilaraemias. 85% of worms were located in the sacral and para-aortic nodes and thoracic duct.
